Louisiana Dept. of Health – Health Standards

Health Standards

The Health Standards Section (HSS) of the Louisiana Department of Health has responsibility for the licensing of all EMS Providers in the State of Louisiana that are subject to licensing statutes.  HSS also has a federal contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to conduct certification surveys and complaint surveys in programs that are Medicare and/or Medicaid certified.  Since 1985, through an agreement between DHH and the federal Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), HSS has been the designated “State Survey Agency” which operates under Section 1864 of the Social Security Act.  This section licenses and certifies providers for participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

The Alliance works closely with Health Standards staff to address issues within the Health Standards purview that impact Alliance members.

Please refer to the LA EMS Medication Shortage Procedure issued by Health Standards at the request of the Alliance here.

In addition, Health Standards issued a memo for all EMS Provides in response to Alliance sponsored legislation that was passed during the 2018 Louisiana Legislative Session. Access the memo here
